In the design industry “soft quartzite” is actually not quartzite, but instead a term used to describe marble formed from metamorphosized dolostone. Marbles made from dolostone are harder, less porous, and more acid resistant than their limestone-based counterparts. Although marble can be used outdoors in dry climates, it is not recommended for outdoor use in wet climates.
