Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between surfaces?

Each material type has different characteristics that distinguish it from the rest and make it safe to use in certain applications. View our Material Reference Guide to learn more about each material’s distinctive properties and applications.

Do you cut or install material?

MARVA does not cut or install material. We supply material directly to the project fabricator you hire. This fabricator will measure, cut, and install your surface materials.

How long will it take to receive the materials from my order?

Materials are shipped directly to the fabricator. Shipping times vary based on product availability and address distance. Please contact your local sales rep to determine the best shipping times for your area.

What are the costs?

As a wholesale surfaces distributer, we provide pricing directly to fabricators only. Pricing can vary depending on the stone chosen, the amount needed for the job, special instructions, limiting seams, extra material to account for exotic patterns, and other various aspects of the project. Once you have selected your material, we will send information to your fabricator who will then be able to provide you with an accurate price quote.

Do you charge for shipping?

In order to keep our vast boom-truck shipping network moving, we bill fabricators for shipping costs based on address distance from our distribution center. Shipping fees will be included in the fabricator’s invoice.

How do I care for my surfaces?

Surface care varies based on material type. Below are basic care guidelines. For more information about care and cleaning specific types of stains such as ink, lemon, wine, etc., please contact us.

Granite, Natural Quartz, Quartzite, Soft Quartzite, Onyx, Slate, Precious Stone, Basalt, & Sandstone: Most natural stones require sealing on a regular basis which reduces the chances of permanent staining. It is best to clean spills as soon as possible. Typical cleaning can be done with mild soap, water, and a soft microfiber cloth. Common brand cleaners that specify natural stone as one of their applications are also acceptable. Bleach and heavy-duty cleaners with harsh chemicals are not recommended and can damage natural stone surfaces. Although most natural stones are heat resistant, it is best to use a trivet when serving food in hot pots, pans, or dishware. Although some natural stones are scratch resistant, it is best to use a cutting board instead of cutting directly on the stone.

Marble, Limestone, & Travertine: Since marble, limestone, and travertine are porous, they require sealing on a regular basis which reduces the chances of permanent staining. It is best to clean spills as soon as possible. Typical cleaning can be done with mild soap, water, and a soft microfiber cloth. Common brand cleaners that specify marble, limestone, or travertine as one of their applications are also acceptable. Bleach and heavy-duty cleaners with harsh chemicals are not recommended and can damage natural stone surfaces. Do not use acid-based cleaners as they may chemically dissolve marble, limestone, and travertine. Although most natural stones are heat resistant, it is best to use a trivet when serving food in hot pots, pans, or dishware. Marble, limestone, and travertine are susceptible to scratches, so use a cutting board to prevent permanent damage.

Soapstone: The most common treatment for soapstone is mineral oil instead of sealants. The oil does not seal or protect the stone, but it speeds up the natural darkening process to develop a natural patina which is the preferred look for this stone. You can apply mineral oil treatment every time the soapstone lightens and after several months it will stay permanently dark. It is best to clean spills as soon as possible. Typical cleaning can be done with mild soap, water, and a soft microfiber cloth. Bleach and heavy-duty cleaners with harsh chemicals are not recommended and can damage the soapstone. Although soapstone is heat resistant, it is best to use a trivet when serving food in hot pots, pans, or dishware. Soapstone is susceptible to scratches, so use a cutting board to prevent permanent damage.

Quartz: Quartz is nonporous and does not require a sealant. It is best to clean spills as soon as possible. Typical cleaning can be done with mild soap, water, and a soft microfiber cloth. Common brand cleaners that specify quartz as one of their applications are also acceptable. Bleach and heavy-duty cleaners with harsh chemicals are not recommended and can damage the quartz. Quartz is not heat resistant, so use a trivet when serving food in hot pots, pans, or dishware. Quartz is susceptible to scratches, so use a cutting board to prevent permanent damage.

Porcelain: Porcelain is nonporous and does not require a sealant. It is best to clean spills as soon as possible. Typical cleaning can be done with mild soap, water, and a soft microfiber cloth. Porcelain is heat resistant, so hot pots, pans, and dishware do not damage or discolor the surface. Porcelain is susceptible to scratches, so use a cutting board to prevent permanent damage.

Sintered Stone: Sintered stone is nonporous and does not require a sealant. It is best to clean spills as soon as possible. Typical cleaning can be done with mild soap, water, and a soft microfiber cloth. Sintered stone is heat resistant, so hot pots, pans, and dishware do not damage or discolor the surface. Sintered stone is susceptible to scratches, so use a cutting board to prevent permanent damage.
